This slim, square-faced watch is what is known as a cocktail watch. Cocktail watches often had slinky bracelets and delicate decoration and was marketed to women. This watch dates to the 1950s-1970s, at a time when more women were entering the work force. The watch was both a practical and aesthetic accessory for the working woman. This watch belonged to Sin Mee Kuen, a mandarin teacher in Nan Hua Girls’ School. She would wear it to keep time during her lessons, paired with a cheongsam and heeled shoes. This watch is made by Titoni, an independent family-owned watch company in Switzerland founded under the name Felco (later Felca) in 1919. In the 1950s, Felca entered the Asian business market under the name "Titoni", a new brand conceptualised by Felca's Bruno Schluep and Singaporean business man Koh Mui Yew. Titoni offered watches that were more expensive, and had a stylised flower (meihua, or plum blossom) as its logo.
