This is a novelty powder compact called Sonata by Pygmalion which was made in England in the early 1950s. It is made to look like a baby grand piano. It is decorated in gold tone with an interior bevelled mirror, fold up legs and a scrolled border. The fold up legs meant it could be easily transported in a bag or pocket, but equally easily displayed on a dressing table.
