A.M.&Co was an Import & Export firm trading in spices, based in Malacca Street. The company had branches in Hong Kong, Colombo and even South Africa. This stencil and others like this were used to mark gani bags (sacks made of jute) holding goods that were shipped to one branc from another. This stencil would have been used to mark bags being shipped to Sri Lanka, South Africa and other trading ports.
