Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a British East India Company trading factory in Singapore in 1819. This book, written by Sir George Elliot, the son of Lord Minto who was a patron of Raffles, provides a different view of Raffles, suggesting he was ungentlemanly, “full of trick, and not so full of truth”.
