Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a British East India Company trading factory in Singapore in 1819. This letter was written to his uncle William Raffles the father of the Revd Thomas Raffles in 1817. At this time, Raffles was in London after returning from his stint as Lieutenant-Governor of Java.
