This shoulder title belonged to a soldier from the Royal Norfolk Regiment, which was an infantry regiment in the British Army. Its 4th, 5th, and 6th battalions, which were Territorial Army battalions, served in Malaya as part of the 18th Infantry Division. The men from these battalions became Prisoners-of-War (POWs) when Singapore was surrendered on 15 February 1942. The soldier to whom this shoulder title belonged would probably have removed it from his uniform before captivity, if he had been wearing it at all, as formation markings were prohibited from being worn in battle from 1939 onwards.
