This postcard depicts the HMS Implacable, an aircraft carrier built by the Royal Navy in 1944. The postcard is captioned 'GOOD LUCK' FROM HMS IMPLACABLE - MANILA - VANCOUVER 25TH SEPT - 11TH OCT 1945. On the back of the postcard is a note written by Major Robert Peaty, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, which reads 'The return of POW from the Far East, IMPLACABLE was in Australia and its aircraft flew back to land when she set out to collect POWs. The aircraft hangars were cleared out to provide space for men, and I was on board for the journey, via Pearl Harbour'. Peaty was captured during the fall of Singapore and spent seven months interned in Changi prison before being sent to Manchuria for the remainder of the war.
