Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a British East India Company trading factory in Singapore in 1819. In this letter from Calcutta later that year, Raffles writes to Nathaniel Wallich, Superintendent of the Calcutta Botanic Gardens, thanking him for specimens received and discusses the engraving of the Sonerila plant.
