This pair of embroidered closed-toed slippers for the groom has an embroidered shoe face, utilizing basket-weave stitch to create auspicious motifs. It is possibly part of a pair of wedding slippers, the other with heels for the bride.This object belonged to Wee Bee Neo, a prominent Sang Khek Umm or mistress of wedding ceremonies. As a wedding specialist, she was in charge of the bride’s hair and jewellery, and guiding the young lady through the proper rituals.
