This beaded curtain wrap is one of a pair. The upper panel features two embroidered birds surrounded by chrysanthemum flowers. The main panel is comprised of three pink and orange roses executed in netted beadwork style. Beaded tassels hang from the bottom of the panel.Curtain wraps were used to decorate the Peranakan bridal bed. They hold up the curtains that would drape in front of the bed. This object belonged to Wee Bee Neo, a prominent Sang Khek Umm or mistress of wedding ceremonies. As a wedding specialist, she was in charge of the bride’s hair and jewellery, and guiding the young lady through the proper rituals.
