This book was printed in 1939 and circulated to active military personnel in the UK, as indicated on its cover. The Tudor Crown or King's Crown symbol which is widely used to represent the British monarchy from 1902 to 1953, is printed on its cover. Both messages by King George VI on the first page and on the inside of the back cover convey the role of the gospel to give faith and provide respite to the soldier during wartime. This book could have been gifted to Albert Riley on or after 24 June 1942 by G Walters, a fellow member of the Royal Army Medical Corp, as suggested by Walters' handwritten quote taken from the Book of John, chapter 20, verse 31.
