This drawing shows the drawbridge at the Malacca River, where much loading and unloading of trading goods would take place. It was taken from a sketchbook of the voyage of the Elphinstone, a British East India Company ship launched in 1824. The ship, an 18-gun sloop, was captained by Henry H Sumner and operated out of London.
