This is a pair of embroidered triangular chopstick rests. The velvet rests are decorated with Chinese auspicious motifs of butterflies and chrysanthemum. There are floral motifs along the border and fringes are attached to the base of the chopstick rests. For the Peranakans, chopsticks were usually used for ceremonies and rituals. During festive occasions like weddings, Peranakans used various, elaborate, decorative textiles and objects for ceremonies and presentation. Early pieces of silk and metal-thread embroidery show more Chinese or Malay influences, by the 20th century, European-inspired beadwork became popular.
