The lower panel of the altar cloth depicts the three stellar gods of good fortune, prosperity and longetivity, known as Hock, Lock and Siew, in a circular panel. They are surrounded by floral motifs and Chinese auspicious symbols such as the phoenix, crane, qilin and deer. The upper panel depicts two dragons chasing flaming pearls.Altar cloth are textiles draped over the front of Chinese altars during ceremonial occassions. Sombre colours of black, blue and green were considered appropriate for mourning periods in the 20th century by Peranakans.
