This blue-and-white sarong is decorated with diagonal strips of flowers and the parang rusak (Javanese term for breaking wave) motifs. This sarong would have been worn with an open jacket with V-shaped lapels known as the kebaya. Sombre colours of black, blue and green were considered appropriate for mourning periods in the 20th century.
