Both the male and female figurines are wearing European-style clothing. The base of the male figurine bears the initials of “H.W.” and the number “7781/1”. The base of the female figurine bears the initials of “H.W.”.These figurines could be of French or German origin and were commonly found in Peranakan homes at the turn of the 20th century. They were usually displayed on sideboards or on pianos. They reflect European colonial influence on the material culture of the Peranakans in the early 20th century.
