"Homes for the People" booklet

Published by the Housing Development Board (HDB), this booklet informs readers of the requirements needed to apply for HDB flats. The publication also provides other various information, including the amenities that were available within the housing board estates. The HDB was established on 1 February 1960, replacing the Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) as the key body that oversaw housing issues in Singapore. One key focus of the HDB was to provide affordable housing for Singapore's low-income families, who enjoyed government subsidies from the rental of HDB flats, a scheme that is explained in this booklet as well.
