This is a group photograph of relatives and friends with the bride and bridegroom out the United Chinese Library.The United Chinese Library was set up in 1910 under the direction of Dr. Sun Yat Sen who used such institutions to disseminate his revolutionary ideas and garner support for his revolutionary uprisings.After the establishment of the Chinese republic in 1911, grand weddings were discouraged as being wasteful and extravagant, and simple civil weddings such as the one shown in the photograph gradually became the norm in Singapore.
