This photograph is part of a collection titled Souvenir de Deli, comprising the works of C. J. Kleingrothe, a photographer based in Sumatra in the late 19th and early 20th century. The photograph mounted above depicts the headquarters of the Deli Maatschappij or Deli Company, the Dutch tobacco trading and distribution company in Deli. The headquarters was built in 1911. The photography below shows the Witte Societeit or White Society, an exclusive White-only club. It was published in Kleingrothe’s Sumatra’s O.K. portfolio.
