This long brooch called the peniti tak, was popular among ladies in Batavia by early 20th century, as it was a suitable pin for a kebaya panjang (or baju panjang). The incorporation of foreign styles and motifs suggests hybrid origins. Silver versions from the late 19th and early 20th centuries have survived in great abundance, but gold versions with rose-cut diamonds like this example are extremely rare.
