Carte-de-visite album

Cartes de visite are small portraits mounted on boards measuring about 6.35 x 10 cm. They were sometimes collected and displayed in specially-designed albums with slots on each page for individual cartes. This type of photographs was very popular in the second half of the 19th century. The cartes de visite found in this album were produced by several photography studios, one of which was Alfred Ellis. The studio was located at Upper Baker Street, London from 1884 to 1898.
