This vanity set belonged to Mr Kwok Chan Kwan who used it during his work trips and personal travels in the 1950s to 1960s. Kwok was a banker who was born in Hong Kong. The vanity set comes complete with a mirror, shaver and brushes, amongst other things. It is personalised as the leather case bears his initials “CKK”. Before World War II, Mr Kwok worked at the Bank of China (BOC) as a manager and later, country manager in Indonesia and was interned as a prisoner of war (POW) for three and a half years during the Japanese occupation. After the war, he was reunited with his family and continued to work for BOC in Kuala Lumpur, Sydney and Penang till 1952 when he joined Lee Wah bank in Singapore. He retired in 1967 and passed away the following year.
