This photograph by Singaporean photographer Tan Lip Seng was submitted to the Royal Photographic Society (UK) for his Fellowship application. This work is one of the examples of Tan's innovative colour technique, in which he creates a high contrast backdrop in order to bring out details of his subject matter. Tan Lip Seng started his career as a medical photographer at the National University of Singapore. He was the first Singaporean to be awarded a fellowship by the Royal Photographic Society of the United Kingdom in 1970 for his colour works.
