Cabinet

Cabinets with a top surface board shaped like those of a recessed-leg table were common household furniture in the Qing dynasty (1644–1911). Some have everted flanges at the end of the table board and decorative spandrels beneath, features which are incorporated into this piece as well. The popularity of these cabinets has persisted and they were produced in large quantities in southern China for export to Hong Kong and Southeast Asia in the last quarter of the 20th century. The 20th-century examples are often embellished with mother-of-pearl decoration and this piece features auspicious imagery of peaches, birds, and butterflies
