Batik skirt cloth of the Surakarta court style with a complex design of auspicious motifs and symbols. The main motif are sawat, a stylized bird-like form meant to represent Garuda, the composite man-bird deity from Hinduism who is the mount of Vishnu. These are surrounded by various birds, insects and sea creatures and filler motifs (semen) of creeping plants, small meru (cosmic mountain), arrows, diamonds and dots.
