Section of loosely woven warp ikat cloth known in Java as kain gubah or kain kasang. These are described in period records as being used as decorative hangings, curtains or partition cloth for ceremonial or festive occasions. See Maxwell (2003, p. 224) for a similar example. There is scant information on these textiles in the literature, in part because it was probably considered inferior and "commercial". Jasper and Pirngadie discuss these cloths briefly in Vol. 1 of their "De Inlandsche Kunstnijverheid in Nederlandsch Indie".
