This skirtcloth is made up of two matching panels of cotton warp ikat cloth. These were probably woven on a continuous warp backstrap loom before being cut and sewn together. It was woven by the Lamaholot people of Lembata island, probably in the region of Ili Api and would have been known as a kewatek, a type of ceremonial sarong, worn by women on special occasions.
