The River Chidami - Java

This is a wash drawing of a party on horseback crossing a river at Buitenzorg (present day Bogor) in Java, with Gunung Salak in the background. It is a scene based on an aquatint attributed to William Daniell in Lady Raffles's Memoir of the Life and Public Services of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, which itself was based on an original 1816 drawing by Mary Fendall, daughter of John Fendall, the successor to Raffles as Lieutenant-Governor of Java.
