Prisoners in the Changi P.O.W camp kept their spirits up and their minds occupied by putting on shows. The programme for a performance of Dodie Smith's Autumn Crocus [produced by Osmond Daltry with decor by Ronald Searle] "presented at the 'Playhouse', Changi Gaol, Singapore, week commencing 23rd October, 1944" is one such example. The programme is 4pp. comprising manuscript decorative upper cover and 3 pages of typescript and is signed by Keith Stevens who took the role of Audrey. This artefact is part of the archive of James Steele, Royal Artillery (Field) who served in Malaya from January 1941-February 1942, when interned as a P.O.W at Changi until his release in October 1945.
