Nanyang University was the first university outside of China catering to high school graduates from the Chinese stream. It was open from 1956 to 1980.The University Tribune was published by the Nanyang University student union, a union that all students that joined the university had to pay to be a part of. The issue is largely devoted to a protest on May 15 1961, where a minority of students demonstrated against their mandatory inclusion in the student union.
