This postcard features a painting of Dr Sun Yat Sen by Low Kway Song. Dr Sun Yat Sen is portrayed dressed in military uniform and seated on a chair, grasping a large map in his right hand. Such postcards were sold to raise funds for Sun yat Sen’s revolutionary movement. Low Kway Song was a self-taught artist who painted portraits of notable personalities in Singapore and Malaya.Besides being a pioneer Singapore artist, he was also deeply involved in the performing arts as a member of the Merrilads Musical and Dramatic Association, a popular Peranakan performing group established in 1923.
