William Daniell (1776-1837) became well-known after working with his uncle Thomas Daniell on Oriental Scenery (1795-1808), depicting views of India. This was part of a series of ten aquatints titled Views of Prince of Wales' Island, published in London in 1821. This aquatint was made after a painting by Captain Robert Smith (1787-1873), a military engineer with the English East India Company.
