This red printed batik kain panjang was worn by Dr Margaret Chan for her 1993 charity performance of Emily of Emerald Hill at Raffles Hotel. It was paired with a green kebaya during the second act of the play. Written by Stella Kon in 1982, Emily of Emerald Hill tells the story of a Peranakan woman from young bride to strong-willed matriarch in the Peranakan enclave of Emerald Hill, in Singapore.
