A jacket owned by Maggie Lim

This silk jacket belonged to Maggie Lim (1913 – 1995), Singapore’s first female Queen’s Scholar. After qualifying as a doctor in London, she became a public health officer in Singapore and campaigned successfully to raise awareness of birth control. According to her daughter, Patricia, the jacket was tailored from a robe previously worn by her ancestor, Tan Kim Ching (1829 – 1892).
