This receipt sheds light on the early stage of Song Seng Chan’s business (Japanese occupation era) where it was once involved in the sale and rental of trishaws. This receipt was signed by Loh Jin Hwee, the owner and founder of the shop, who had purchased the trishaws from a company called Ngee Hong. In fact, the Japanese Occupation did not disrupt the business of Song Seng Chan, which continued to sell bicycles and other household items in the post-World War 2 era.
