This pair of beaded heeled slippers is decorated on its face with a Betty Boop design. This cartoon was popular among Peranakan women during the early and mid-20th century. This pair was made in 1993 to imitate the style and taste of an earlier time.Written by Stella Kon in 1982, Emily of Emerald Hill tells the story of a Peranakan woman from young bride to strong-willed matriarch in the Peranakan enclave of Emerald Hill, in Singapore.
