The large teakwood sideboard is gilded with a large mirror in the centre. In Peranakan homes, such sideboards would be placed in the reception hall. At times, sideboards like this could be turned into deity altars where a statue or portrait of the household deity would be placed at the centre of table. Offerings would be placed in front of the statue. Some such tables would have and extendable small table attached to it for additional offerings. An altar cloth or tokwi would then be hung on the front of the table for special occasions.
