The Rescue is a book written by Joseph Conrad and published in 1920. The book is part of a trilogy based on Conrad's experience as mate on the steamer Vidar. Joseph Conrad was a seaman and author who visited Singapore and the Raffles Hotel in 1887. He described the hotel in the novel ‘End of Tether’ as being ‘airy as a birdcage’.
