Gross measurement: inc. border 29.2 x 17.8 cm
The drawing shows a lady wearing European dress of the 17th century. It would have been influenced by European prints that were collected by courtly ateliers. Even her pose has a boldness more associated with European portraiture. She wears a long sleeved dress with a ruffled collar, and a feathered hat, and holds a cup. The landscape recedes into the background which also demonstrates European influence, although the positioning of the flowering scrubs around her are typical of Safavid images. The drawing is mounted onto a gold illuminated salmon-coloured border decorated with applied coloured paper medallions, and the reverse contains calligraphic panels in black in nasta’liq script.
