East Again is written by Walter Burton Harris, a journalist, writer, traveller and socialite. He is well known for his writings on Morocco, but also writes about other countries in the ‘Near and Far East’ in this collection. He visits Singapore, and mentions places such as the Municipal Offices and the General Post office. He also comments on the population, often perpetrating unhelpful stereotypes. For example, he describes the Malay population as a ‘picturesque adjunct’ in the affairs or commerce in the city.
