This lobed vessel which takes the form of a pumpkin is covered in glassy, light-green glaze. Its small size suggests that it may have been used as a waterdropper. The beauty of the glaze in itself may have resulted in the Longquan potters' preference to keep their wares relatively plain or paired with subtle decoration.Longquan wares appealed to both local and overseas clients. Many were exported to foreign markets that included Japan, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. In addition to their utilitarian functions, celadons were perceived to possess special properties. In South Sulawesi for instance, celadon sherds were also reportedly thrown into wells to keep the water inside pure.
