This is a photograph of Mr Ngiam Tong Boon, creator of the Singapore sling. Ngiam Tong Boon was an immigrant from Hainan who worked in the Long Bar of the Raffles Hotel. He also ran a lodging house on Middle Road for other immigrants from China, who stayed free of charge. The year in which the Singapore Sling was invented is disputed, although it is certain that by 1915 this cocktail existed.
