As a competent oil painter in the local context, Lee Boon Ngan has been well known for her work of still life painting. The work in oil exemplifies Lee’s early practice as a professional artist. Approached with the technique rooted in the classical realism, the painting is particularly unique for its chosen objects-the food (two semi-boiled eggs, butter and coffee) and tableware (coffee pot, cup and saucer and the blue-greyish container for butter), which were common and favoured by local people for breakfast during the 1960s and 1970s.
