This lobed stemcup features incised floral decoration on each panel around its body. The elegant form simulates an open flower. This design was apparently very well-received as foliate vessels were also made in precious metals and lacquer, as well as by craftsmen in China. The presence of very similar foliate forms in both the Goryeo and Chinese celadon traditions suggests a flow of ideas and goods.Celadons or green-glazed wares were the finest ceramics produced during the Goryeo dynasty. The Goryeo potters drew inspiration from Chinese Yue ware as well as Ru ware but subsequently developed a distinctive type of ware by pairing their celadons with inlaid decoration.
