The quartz family of stones, which includes chalcedony, was frequently used by artisans. The wide spectrum of colours of these stones gave the artisans much room to exercise their skill and imagination. The artisan has capitalised on variations in the colour of the stone to create his design of monkeys holding peaches on this bottle.
