The sculpture draws inspiration from kudam or water pots which are used all over the Indian Subcontinent to contain water. The flowing lines of water represent ideas and trade networks while the rings of symbols – cultural associations of the South Asian communities that migrated to Singapore. The kudam connects the façade design of the IHC, which is inspired by the architecture of step-wells or baolis – meeting places for the community. It also symbolises creative energy, germination of ideas and meeting of minds of diverse people.
