This is a white garment that was worn by the groom during the important coming-of-age ritual that was a part of the Chinese Peranakan wedding, known as the 'chiu thau' ceremony. Such garments were worn by the bride and groom at the start of the ceremony as a symbol of their purity. After this ceremony, these garments would be kept away and eventually buried with the individual.
