Fourth volume of Chan Kim Boon’s Chrita Dulu Kala which is a translation of the Chinese classic Journey to the West (Kou Chey Thian pergi di negri She Thian C’hu Keng). It was published from 1911 to 1913. Chrita Dulu Kala, loosely translated as ‘stories from ancient times’, were books written (by several authors) at the turn of the 20th century up to the 1950s and were immensely popular within the Peranakan Chinese community. Written in serialised format, they tell stories from Chinese folklore, legends and historical epics such as Journey to the West and Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
