This rosewater sprinkler is decorated using filigree work and comprised of various elements in the form of leafy and floral patterns. Filigree work is done by bending and soldering plaited silver wires together to create an intricate open-work mesh. Silver filigree work as such was done in 18th century China and Batavia (Indonesia) and probably in other centres such as Manila and Malacca. Related work was also being produced in India and Sri Lanka. These objects are highly sought after by larger European trading houses such as Holland’s VOC.
