In addition, Its reddish-brown coarse cotton base fabric make it a typical East Punjab phulkari. The phulkari or flower-work is traditional embroidery by the women in Punjab, India. These embroidered textiles were gifted to a young bride at the time of her wedding as part of her trousseau; some designed for everyday wear and others for special occasions. Young Punjabi girls are taught the craft of phulkari embroidery in their teen years, to contribute to the making of their own phulkari. The phulkari textile is an integral element of Punjabi tradition in India and among the widespread Punjabi diaspora, including Singapore’s Punjabi community.
